The Blue Dog Beer Tavern

Nestled near the 101/405 interchange, across from Whole Foods, is a tiny tavern called the Blue Dog. It’s been open for just over a year, and, even though I shop at Whole Foods regularly, I never noticed it. Mainly, this is because it’s also next to a dog grooming place, and I really thought they [...]

The little joys of life

As a kid watching June Cleaver on TV, I dreamed of one day marrying a woman like June. Ward walked in the front door after a hard days work, and June waited patiently to hear about his day at the ?Salt Mine?. He was a good Dad, and she a good Mom. They were both [...]

Siegel?s Bagels Kitsilano Review

Last week, Gary and I headed to Siegel’s Bagels (Cornwall & Cypress) to pick up some bagels to enjoy with the heavenly smoked salmon we had just bought from Whole Foods. Really, what goes better with smoked salmon than bagels with cream cheese! Montreal style bagels are smaller, denser and a tad sweeter than a [...]

Review: Baguette

Dinner service - Monday, 27th October
Short and Sweet
What happens when you mix styles, tastes, flavours and nationalities all over the place? One would presume a far less classy and organised experience than my night at Baguette, which impressed me from the outset with its consistent service, excellent combination of ingredients and unique decor. A firm [...]

Review: C?est Bon

Dinner service - Wednesday, 8th October
Shortish and Sweetish
For my wife’s birthday we decided to see if the arrival of a new French restaurant could rival our long-held favourite of Montrachet and while it didn’t score as highly for me as their Paddington competitors it was still an extremely enjoyable dining experience, if a little cramped. [...]

Inca Trail: Peruvian cuisine for the whole family

Inca Trail gets a solid recommendation from me. The food is good, well presented, and unique. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable but with a touch of class.
